Of the 261 million acres managed by the federal Bureau of Land Management, only about 17 million acres have ever been inventoried or surveyed to identify cultural resources found there. Here are examples of on-the-ground impacts to cultural and natural resources in the National Landscape Conservation System, which was established in 2000 to recognize and protect BLM’s premier lands and waters.
